Graham Potter’s Brighton have been a big topic of conversation this season. Understat’s expected model says that Brighton should be 3rd in the league. They are expected to have scored 41 goals but have only scored 26 and they’ve also conceded 4 more than excepted.

Yesterday, this tweet from Harry blew up. I’m sure he’s bored of talking about it, but I’m going to. Harry received a lot of abuse for it and I was a bit confused why everyone was freaking out. A lot of the replies were very hyperbolic, saying that Brighton shouldn’t win penalties because their…

With the Euros belatedly planned to come this summer, fans are already looking ahead to what the strongest starting lineup is going to be. As usual, I’ve seen some ludicrious suggestions and people tend to disagree with my England opinions. I haven’t really decided my XI yet but I’m going to use this article to document my thought process. I also listened to Chris Summersell speak about this recently and has made me think about it a lot because I agree with what he said.

My Philosophy for Selecting International Lineups

The main thing to consider is how that Southgate isn’t going to have a…

There are two ways to judge a transfer:

  1. How good the transfer was at the time. Did it make sense? Did we get good value?
  2. Outcome. Did the transfer work out? Did they meet expectation?

For example, Naby Keita was a great signing on paper. He was excellent at Leipzig, he was young and a very exciting player. His move to Liverpool hasn’t worked out though due to injuries. Before this season you could have put Ndombele in this category but luckily for us he adapted for this season.

Every transfer has risk. Injuries, players not being able to adapt…

This article was written in March 2020.

Dele is still only 23 years old, turning 24 next month. This season he has 7 goals and 4 assists in the league, mainly playing as a number 10. He’s contributed to 0.55 expected goals and assists per 90. Only Son has contributed more for Spurs this season.

From 2015 to 2018, Dele was a revelation and a key part of Pochettino’s Spurs that finished 3rd, 2nd and 3rd in the Premier League with Dele scoring 37 and assisting 26 over those three season despite being so young.

As Spurs have declined…

So hopefully you’ve seen that along with Jereon (@J__TP5), I’ve started a new project. Target Scouting is the site I’ll now be working on to try and cover as many players and prospects as possible.

You should check it out and follow us on Twitter. This piece is just going to explain the project with a few disclaimers and working as a FAQs page so I can just refer people here.

The plan is to write three types of articles:

  • Match reports
  • Team reports
  • Player reports

Match reports

Based off one match we’ll discuss some of the players and give our opinions…

In my opinion Poland is an undervalued league which is worth monitoring for young players, as I explained in this article: Where to Scout in Europe.

Robert Gumny is a Polish U21 international who has been a name I’ve heard a lot over the past few seasons and I’ve finally got round to properly watching. He’s recently been strongly linked with Celtic and was also linked with Fiorentina. Two years ago he apparently failed a deadline day medical with Borussia Monchengladbach and was said to have Premier League clubs interested. …

Kudus is a 19 year old Ghanian international who plays for FC Nordsjælland in the Danish Superliga. They are currently 5th in the league. Like many Nordsjælland players, Kudus came through the Right to Dream academy in Ghana who do exceptional work and are worth looking at.

He plays as a false 9 in a front three in Denmark and has impressed this season. He has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Sampdoria and Everton and no doubt many of Europes’ top clubs are monitoring him. …

Camavinga is one of the hottest prospects in world football and has been catching headlines with impressive performances for Rennes since the start of the season. He’s already been linked with clubs such as Real Madrid, PSG, Liverpool and Spurs. He’s only 17 but has been extremely promising, already showing to be a high calibre of player with a huge ceiling and a bright future.

The midfielder is an U21 international for France. He was born in Angola, moving to France when he was 2. He’s been with Rennes since he was 11, making his debut for the first team…

We’re officially in lockdown in the UK now so my articles should continue. Make sure you’ve read my other ones this week on: Alejandro Pozo, Marc Cucurella, Joao Palhinha, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Robert Skov.

Today we’re looking Patrick Burner. The 23 year old French right back plays for Nice, who are 6th in Ligue 1. Managed by Patrick Viera and recently bought by British billionaire Jim Ratcliffe, Nice are a young side that are worth keeping an eye on with quite a few players I really like.

Burner has made 15 starts for Nice this season in the League, the…

Robert Skov is a Danish international who caught the attention of many by breaking goalscoring records in the Danish Superliga aged 22, playing on the right wing. This impressive season earned him a £9m move to Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga from Copenhagen.

In the Superliga he scored 29 goals in 34 matches as well as 10 assists from the right wing and won the Danish championship with Copenhagen.

Since joining the German side, he’s been used as a left sided player, usually as a wing back in a 3–1–4–2 or a left back in a 4–2–3–1. He’s got 3 goals…
